WOW! Performance Fall 2012

As our Spring 2013 class prepares for their WOW! performance I wanted to share what the students from last semester accomplished...

The H.E.A.R.T. Martial Arts class and Citizen Schools students put together another amazing WOW! for all the parents and students to enjoy at the Louise A. Spencer Middle School.

Each group (Newark Early College and Eagle Academy) had the chance to showcase all their amazing work in their very own Citizen Schools WOW! The students did an amazing job:
  • Collecting 200 pounds of clothes for those in need (donated to the local Salvation Army)
  • Collecting 100 pounds of food for the animals at the Jersey Animal Coalition
  • Creating handmade toys for the animals at the Jersey Animal Coalition
  • Collecting dozens of toys were for children in need (via a Red Cross school event)
  • Collecting 100 pounds of food for the hungry (donated to the local Salvation Army)

WOW! Performance Spring 2012

The H.E.A.R.T. Martial Arts class and Citizen Schools students put together another amazing WOW! for all the parents and students to enjoy at the Newark Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.

The WOW! showcased the students' various volunteer accomplishments over the course of the 2012 Spring semester. Among their many volunteer objectives the students did a great job creating handmade toys for the animals at the Jersey Animal Coalition. In addition to the animal shelter work our students helped to feed the hungry by making sandwiches and snack packs for the Saint Andrew's Church Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen.

Sandwiches for the Hungry

The H.E.A.R.T. Martial Arts class and Citizen Schools students worked hard putting together lunch for all the hungry people that come to Saint Andrew's Church each Friday afternoon.

The students and staff were fast at work fixing up 100 ham and cheese sandwiches to accompany the granola bars and Twizzlers. We hope it went a long ways towards helping all the hungry people at the food pantry/soup kitchen. Father Roberts, from Saint Andrew's Church, came to the MLK School to pick up all the food and personally thank everyone for all their hard work.

Many thanks to all of the Citizen Schools Staff members, Dr. Wilson and the MLK Kitchen Staff for opening early.

Thank You Cards for the Newark Police Department

The H.E.A.R.T. Martial Arts class and Citizen Schools students created Thank You cards for the Newark Police Department.

First and foremost we are very thankful for the Newark Police Department's efforts to keep our community safe!

In addition to the students all of us here at H.E.A.R.T. Martial Arts and Citizen Schools want to say thank you for everything the Newark Police Department does!

We cannot thank the Newark Police Department enough for letting us use the Police Academy to conduct our classes. Without your help and support we may not be able to provide this service to the community. Thank you!

Be safe! Be Strong!

Animal Shelter Toys - They Make Humans Too!

The H.E.A.R.T. Martial Arts class and Citizen Schools students put together handmade toys for the animals at the Jersey Animal Coalition!

The students did a great job during several volunteer sessions making dozens and dozens of handmade toys for the dogs and cats. The tug-of-war toys for the dogs and catnip mouse toys for the cats were a big hit at the shelter as we could immediately see how happy it made everyone (humans included)!

Many thanks to all of the Citizen Schools Staff members that helped as well!
